Colin is very excited to return to Verdi’s Rigoletto. He last performed as Marullo in 2018 at San Diego Opera, but now graduates to sing the assassin, Sparafucile. The role is known well in the opera world for and extremely important low F sung at the end of the duet with Rigoletto in Act I. Kostis Protopappas conducts and Octavio Cardenas directs.
Rigoletto
Rigoletto is without a doubt one of the most tuneful works ever composed. Almost every number in the show is an earworm, though none as famous as La Donna è Mobile. However the assasin, Sparafucile, is not known for his tuneful music. He is best known for the sinister and exposed low F he sings in the first act duet with Rigoletto. It is a necessary part of every bass’s life and a test of one of the most important notes in the bass range.
