Colin is thrilled to return to Michael Shell’s beautiful and whimsical production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola as Alidoro. He makes his Utah Opera debut with Maestro Steven White alongside a wonderful cast and the Utah Symphony.
Cenerentola
La Cenerentola is one of Rossini’s most towering comedies, though it is full of some of his most challenging vocal writing. Every role demands a masterful singer, even the relatively short role of Alidoro, Ramiro’s tutor (fairy godfather). His aria La del ciel nell’arcano profondo is known to be an Everest for most basses, featuring rangy and unrelenting fioratura, a punishing number of Eb’s all done with the kindness, ease and benevolence the character demands. For many years, it was cut from the opera due to its intense virtuosity.
